Ray Martinez Speaks with Truckload Carriers at the 81st Annual TCA Conference

Omnitracs

Each year at the Truckload Carriers’ Association (TCA) conference, professionals from the truckload segment of the motor carrier industry gather to network and discover all that’s new in truckload shipping. The theme this year was “Truckload Strong” so, going into the conference, we were excited to see what TCA had in store for everyone – and we didn’t leave disappointed.

Ray Martinez – “Truckload Safe makes you Truckload Strong”

We were especially excited to hear Ray Martinez, Administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, discuss the agency’s relationship with the transportation industry. In his talk, Martinez noted how much his agency values collaboration between regulators and the industry, and shared that the agency is focused on distinguishing preventable from non-preventable crashes through its Crash Preventability Demonstration Program – in the hopes that non-preventable crashes can be removed from carriers’ Compliance, Safety, and Accountability scores. Martinez highlighted that data shows the electronic logging device (ELD) mandate has helped to reduce the number of drivers exceeding Hours of Service regulations – which reduces the number of preventable crashes industry-wide.

Martinez pointed out that as of August 2018, ELD compliance was “nearly 99% across the trucking industry.” While most fleets have ELDs installed, many may not be ready when the ELD mandate’s Automatic Onboard Recording Device (AOBRD) grandfather clause expires December 16th of 2019.

Visit eldfacts.com to learn more about the AOBRD grandfather clause expiration and ensure your fleet is ready before December 16th.
