Omnitracs joins customers in honoring veterans in Wreaths Across America event

Omnitracs

For the ninth consecutive year, Omnitracs is honored to support Wreaths Across America (WAA) alongside customers like Pottle’s Transportation and C.R. England. WAA hosts “Wreaths Across America Day” every December to remember and honor Veterans and to teach children the value of freedom. This year, Omnitracs will donate 2,500 wreaths and employees will participate in wreath-laying ceremonies at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, Arlington National Cemetery, Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, and Miramar National Cemetery in San Diego.

Since its inception, the trucking industry has been a critical part of WAA. One of the biggest in-kind donations come in the form of donated trucking to make sure all wreaths make it to the right place. Shipping costs can be pricey, so donations from trucking companies for their time and resources is what helps Wreaths Across America thrive and grow. This year, there will be 500 trucks and two million wreaths.

However, the commitment to veterans extends beyond WAA. Omnitracs and its customers hire veterans because soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines learn how to drive, repair or support big vehicles or to manage logistics while in service — which is why so many gravitate toward a career in trucking. Veterans hold such a special place in the hearts of transportation companies as the industry employs about 11 percent of working veterans.

Omnitracs’ employees and customers alike believe it’s their duty to give back and pay respect to veterans and their families, especially during the holiday season, and one of the best ways to do this is supporting the Wreaths Across America program.

Barry Pottle, president and CEO of Pottle's Transportation, has been involved with WAA since the start.  During his first year delivering wreaths, he drove past a woman with her hand on her heart. She was crying and mouthing the words ‘thank you’ to the passing trucks. In that moment, Barry realized how much this event meant to the families and communities of these fallen heroes. Over the years, he’s worked with organizations like the Truckload Carriers Associations, the American Trucking Associations, and other state organizations to help coordinate wreath deliveries. This year, Barry and his team will once again deliver wreaths to Arlington Cemetery alongside many Omnitracs volunteers.
