Flashback Friday: Fed Chairman's 2000 Comments a Nod to Omnitracs

Long recognized as a pioneer in the use of commercial vehicle telematics, starting with its 1988 introduction of the first mobile information system for transportation and logistics, Omnitracs marks nearly 30 years of delivering mobile computing technology to help fleets improve asset management, safety and compliance, operational efficiency and more. We’re proud of our history of innovation and gratified to have been recognized by many—within the industry and beyond—for our contributions over the years.

One particularly notable third-party acknowledgement of the positive impacts of Omnitracs and other high-tech companies came from Alan Greenspan, former chairman of the U.S. Federal Reserve. In a 2000 speech to the Economic Club in New York, Greenspan stated that the “satellite location of trucks has fostered market reductions in delivery lead times and the related work hours required for the production and delivery of all sorts of goods, from books to capital equipment.” As the first company to launch this technology for transportation and logistics fleets, the chairman’s remarks are largely believed to have been in reference to Omnitracs.

Omnitracs sold the first 5,000 units of its satellite-based, two-way mobile information and asset tracking system to industry-leading fleet, Schneider National in 1989. And the rest, as they say, is history.

Our commitment to invention, modernization and collaboration continues today. Through our acquisition of leading providers of adjacent technologies, to our ongoing product development and partnerships with best-in-class providers of complementary offerings, Omnitracs remains at the forefront of mobile fleet management and routing solutions for fleets across a broad spectrum of operational profiles. We continue to grow our comprehensive portfolio of proven applications and services to provide customers a competitive advantage through lowered costs, increased driver satisfaction, streamlined processes, improved customer service, and the unparalleled power of big data.
